CEDAR CITY — A woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover early Saturday morning on Interstate 15 in Iron County. Two other people, a man and an infant, were hospitalized and are in critical condition, authorities said.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred said the incident was reported at 1:20 a.m. and involved a black Ford F-150 pickup truck on southbound I-15 near mile marker 81, just north of Paragonah.

Allred said the vehicle was heading south when its driver lost control on black ice.

“The vehicle spun to the left into the median where it rolled over, ejecting all three occupants and came to rest on its left side blocking both northbound lanes,” Allred told Cedar City News, adding, “The three occupants were an adult male, an adult female and a 1-year-old female.”

The woman died at the scene, he said.

“The husband was going to be airlifted but due to the restrictions on the helicopter, he was taken by ground,” Allred said, adding that the infant was transported to the hospital by helicopter.

Allred said the northbound lanes of I-15 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours for the investigation, medical transport and cleanup, with traffic being diverted onto a frontage road.

Failure to wear seat belts is being considered as a contributing factor to the severity of the crash, Allred added.

The identity of the woman who died has not yet been released.
