Feb. 13, 1945-April 15, 2024
Alice Faye Eiber, age, passed away April 15, 2024. She was born on Feb. 13, 1945, in St. Albans, West Virginia. She was the 13th child of Basil and Nancy Jones Thomas. Her father worked long hours to provide for his large family.
Faye was a teacher’s pet in high school and was destined to become a teacher. She attended Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1966. In fall of that year, she accepted an elementary teaching position at Brunswick City Schools in Brunswick, Ohio. During her career at Brunswick, she was awarded the Martha Holden Jenning Award for Excellence in Teaching and Delta Kappa Gamma International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators.
Faye met a high school teacher Neal Eiber, at a district-wide meeting. After a short engagement, they were married on June 13, 1975, in Akron, Ohio. That summer they had a 6-week honeymoon backpacking through Europe. Upon returning they resigned their jobs and moved to Flagstaff, Arizona.
In Flagstaff, Faye taught at the Early Childhood Learning Center and earned her master’s degree in elementary education at Northern Arizona University, with a reading endorsement in 1981. Faye and Neal moved to Tuba City, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation where she directed the Hospital Employees Day Care. She then started Joy Preschool of Northern Arizona. This was a non-profit organization for Navajo, Hopi, Public School, BIA and public health parents of pre-schoolers.
In 1983 Faye and Neal were blessed with their first child, a 2-year-old named Christel whom they adopted through an Arizona state program. Faye loved to tell everyone that they were one of 500 couples eligible to adopt Christel. In December 1984 they welcomed their son Jedidiah.
Since moving to St. George, she attended New Life Christian Fellowship. She was a believer all her life and knew she had a Heavenly Home.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Ovation Sienna Hills Memory Care Unit for the excellent care given to Faye in her final months and to her hospice team: Johanna, Charlene, Ricky, Crystal, Cathy and Dr. Owensby for providing love, comfort and outstanding care.
Services will be held Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
