Betty returned to her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of May 23, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1934 in Adamsville, Utah to Lewis J. Stewart and Sarah Irene Westwood Stewart.
Betty married John Jimenez on August 5, 1951 in Pioche, Nev. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple on April 12, 2001.
She lost Johnny on May 2, 2007 after being married for almost 56 years. Together, Betty and John had six children; Robert, Linda, Jerry, Luann, Larry and Cindy and owned a service station in Milford for many years.
Betty loved all of her family very much. Her grandchildren all remember her Mickey Mouse, snowmen and train pancakes on Saturday mornings. She loved reading, traveling, anything to do with Native Americans, cross stitching, genealogy and family history.
She grew up with horses and loved them. She had several dogs throughout her life and loved them all. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life including Relief Society President.
Betty loved her ward family throughout her life. She served as a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was involved at the senior citizen’s center and loved playing pinochle there. She was always very social and made friends wherever she went.
She married Garth Van Tassell on August 10, 2013 in Milford, Utah. They were married and kept each other company for almost 11 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Irene, her husband John, her siblings Lewis Jr., Nedra, Christine and James, her children Robert, LuAnn and Larry and her grandchildren Nathan and Destri.
She is survived by her children Linda (Doug deceased) Jimenez, Jerry (Cathy) Jimenez , Cindy (Densel) Lang, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her husband Garth VanTassell and his children Mike (Debbie) VanTassell, Gary (Norma) VanTassell, Elaine (Tony deceased) Schriver and Todd VanTassell and also preceded in death by Brad VanTassell and Connie Adams.
Betty is loved and will be missed by many family, friends and residents of Beaver County.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 1, at 12 p.m. at the Milford LDS Church, located at 748 West 600 South, Milford, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10-11:30 a.m. at the same location.
Interment will follow at Milford City Cemetery, 200 South 300 West, Milford, Utah, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences may be shared at www.mortuary.org.
