The collision resulted in serious injuries for a 16-year-old female bicyclist, Washington City Police Department’s Lt. Kory Klotz told St. George News.

The teenager was riding her mountain bike westbound at approximately 7:57 a.m. on Telegraph Street when a Chevy Cruz, driven by an unidentified motorist, approached from 200 East, Klotz said. The Chevy driver did not see the bicyclist enter the intersection and kept moving forward, eventually colliding with the westbound bike.

Emergency responders from the Washington City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance treated the victim at the scene. She was later transported to St. George Regional Hospital with significant injuries to her upper extremities.

The young girl was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Klotz said. No citations have been issued yet, as police are still conducting interviews with those involved in the incident.

“We urge our citizens to be mindful of pedestrians and bicycles while driving,” said Klotz, further emphasizing the importance of pedestrians and bicyclists being cautious of vehicles as well.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
