ST. GEORGE — Multiple agencies responded to what was reported as an active shooter call at Hurricane High School Monday afternoon — a campus that was devoid of any students since classes were not in session.

Law enforcement, however, has yet to find any evidence of an active shooter as they continue to clear the campus.

“There was no shooting at the school today,” Hurricane Police Officer Dan Raddatz said on the department’s Facebook page.

Officers were dispatched to an incident involving what was initially reported as an active shooter call shortly after 1:15 p.m. Monday at Hurricane High School.

There were no students at the school at the time, since classes were not in session, according to the alert posted by Raddatz.

Raddatz also made a statement that is included in the video shown at the top of this report.

The call came through the non-emergency number for dispatch from an individual reporting they were at the high school locked inside the library and the auditorium and that shots were being fired inside the school.

Police officers from Hurricane and “every other neighboring agency within the county responded to assist,” Raddatz stated in the post.

Officers have cleared those areas and are still at the school but have yet to find any signs of gunshots being fired on school grounds.

Steven Dunham, communication and public relations director for Washington County School District, said when he went to Hurricane High School as the incident was unfolding, he specifically noted there being law enforcement from not only the Hurricane City Police Department but also St. George, Washington City, Utah Highway Patrol, the FBI, Utah Tech University and others.

“We very much appreciate the response from the officers from multiple agencies at Hurricane at High School,” he said. “Our first responders are there to make sure everyone returns how safe, and you have to commend them for that,” he said.

Raddatz said that more information will be provided once additional details become available.
