GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – The body of a missing New Mexico woman has been recovered from below Twin Overlooks along Desert View Drive in Grand Canyon National Park.

National Park Service personnel located her body Tuesday following a multi-day search, according to a park service news release.
Park rangers recovered the body, which was located approximately 150 feet below the rim. The body was transported to the rim and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. The individual was identified as Leticia A. Castillo, 20, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to the news release, Castillo was believed to have entered the Grand Canyon on or around Saturday. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

Since July 31 and including Wednesday’s recovery mission, the Grand Canyon Search and Rescue team has handled three technical rescue recoveries. On Aug. 1, a man visiting the Grand Canyon died after jumping from a cliff with a parachute. The day before, a man died afer a fall from Pipe Creek Overlook.
Despite facing inclement weather and hazardous terrain, the rescue team has undertaken significant risks to complete these missions, the news release said.
