In a press release, Lt. Kory Klotz with the Washington City Police Department reported that at approximately 6:58 a.m., officers responded to a vehicular accident at the intersection of Coral Canyon Boulevard and Telegraph Street.
The incident involved a red Jeep Rubicon and an older model Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike upon impact.
Washington City Police Officers promptly arrived at the scene and initiated life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the adult male rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial statements from the other driver, witnesses at the scene, and the preliminary investigation indicate that the Jeep was traveling eastbound on Telegraph Street and attempting to turn left onto northbound Coral Canyon Boulevard.
Meanwhile, the Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on Telegraph through the intersection. The motorcycle collided with the front bumper of the Jeep, causing the rider to be ejected.
Officers said at this time, it appears the driver of the Jeep did not see the oncoming motorcycle while making the turn. The Jeep’s driver is cooperating with the investigation and no charges have been filed as the incident is currently under investigation.
Coral Canyon Boulevard at Telegraph Street is currently closed. The scene is expected to be cleared around 1 p.m. The identity of the deceased male is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
