At 1:06 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, Saturn will turn retrograde at 19 degrees Pisces, where it will then appear to move backward in the sky until Nov. 15.
Saturn began its transit through Pisces on March 7, 2023, and has been pushing us to focus on materializing our dreams. In its lower frequency, Saturn in Pisces can influence us to want to shirk responsibilities and escape reality.
In the weeks leading up to Saturn turning retrograde, some may have felt an energetic downturn. This is because Saturn is working to bring about a change in perspective.
Saturn is the planet of responsibility, hard work, self-control, maturity and limitations. Known in astrology as the “Celestial Taskmaker,” Saturn teaches us lessons in life, and under its influence, we achieve by overcoming obstacles and hardship. Saturn highlights the importance of effort in the soul’s evolution.
Unlike the great benefic Jupiter, Saturn does not give away prizes in the form of luck; rather, Saturn’s rewards are often delayed and derive from integrity, perseverance and one’s ability to turn away from the lure of instant gratification to build something that can stand the test of time.
Saturn’s influence is also about boundaries. Its energy opposes the nature of Pisces, a mutable water sign, causing reality and fantasy to blur. Intuition and emotions override reason. But during Saturn retrograde, we have the chance to gain insight into where we may have gotten off track or lost in unrealistic thinking, particularly in the area of life that Saturn is transiting for each sign.
Our long-term goals and self-discipline come under review, and it’s time to reflect on what we have had to overcome so far and the lessons we learned along the way.
It’s important to note that while Saturn is retrograde, it’s not the best time to make major decisions.
So, what does all of this mean for you? Find out below.
Aries
March 21-April 19
As Saturn turns retrograde in your solar 12th house, you may feel a bit of heaviness or a need to withdraw, dear Aries, as you’re now focused on whether your goals are spiritually fulfilling. If you find a lack of meaning or purpose, it may be time to shift gears or re-orient yourself in relation to your long-term aims. This also may be a time when you are wrapping up projects that have outworn their purpose. While this is not an ideal time to launch a new project, returning to something from the past can feel deeply rewarding.
Taurus
April 20-May 20

This Saturn retrograde season brings about a shift in perspective concerning your social circle, future dreams and how you connect with others, dear Taurus. You may find yourself looking more closely at how well your goals are aligned with your overall happiness. Part of this may be establishing better boundaries with your time and with whom you spend it. You may see where you need to tone down your compassion to avoid being taken advantage of. You may find that the groups with whom you associated do not share the same vision of the future.
Gemini
May 21–June 20
As Saturn turns retrograde in your 10th house, you begin to perceive your career, long-term goals and reputation in a whole new light, dear Gemini. And rather than reaching for the next bright and shiny thing, it’s time to simplify your goals. Seeking to expand at this time could bring on more stress. And it may be that there are other resources from which to draw. Themes related to shared resources, intimacy, dependence and personal power also come under review.
Cancer
June 21–July 22

You may begin to feel the burden of too many responsibilities as Saturn turns retrograde in your ninth house, dear Cancer. While this heaviness will eventually recede, it offers a way to open your mind to how your core beliefs are guiding your direction in life and perhaps stagnating your growth. Use this time to reassess what you believe about yourself and the world, and try to identify negative self-talk or limiting ideas and replace those thoughts with positive affirmations. You may find that some of your beliefs are byproducts of an unhealthy relationship. Time to let go.
Leo
July 23–August 22
While Saturn turning retrograde in your eighth house can initially feel like someone has pressed pause on your life, you are being prompted to reassess your priorities, dear Leo. This is because Saturn is bringing a shift in perspective around debts, mental and physical health, daily routines and your day job. It’s time to refine how you spend your time, as you may be over-investing in one area, which is throwing everything else out of whack. And it may be that the key here is to simplify. Rather than trying to do everything all at once, spend 10 or 15 minutes a day on something you’ve been neglecting.
Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22

You may feel weighed down this week in the days leading up to Saturn turning retrograde in your seventh house, dear Virgo. In your partnership sector, Saturn is pushing to bring about a new perspective related to how you prioritize relationships and significant people in your life while maintaining a commitment to your goals. Creative pursuits, children, romance and hobbies also come under review and the work that still needs to be done in order to connect them to your purpose. You can gain a great deal of wisdom now, by reflecting on the highs and lows of past relationships.
Libra
Sept. 23–Oct. 22
With Saturn beginning its monthlong retrograde in your sixth house of work, health and daily routine, it’s more critical to watch out for errors, dear Libra. Responsibilities could feel a bit heavier this week as Saturn moves to bring you a change of perspective surrounding the details of your daily activity. But this transit is really about refinement, not making a total overhaul. Take time to reassess whether your commitments are helping you establish a sense of security or merely draining your time.
Scorpio
Oct. 23–Nov. 21

As Saturn’s monthslong retrograde takes hold, matters related to children, self-expression, creative projects, hobbies and romance come under review, dear Scorpio. And as a result, your perspective on these elements of your life is likely to shift. For instance, you may return to an old project with a new vision, realize a new way to connect with your children or revive the child inside of you. Projects started now may be delayed and become points of stress. This also may be the case for romantic partnerships.
Sagittarius
Nov. 22–Dec. 21
Saturn’s monthlong retrograde through Pisces marks a time of refining and reassessing your commitments to home and family, dear Sagittarius. You could feel a bit destabilized this week, but this is meant to help refocus your attention on long-term aims, especially in terms of establishing a greater sense of security. This could bring about some emotionally rocky times, but these moments will help strengthen your resilience. Money, possessions and self-worth are a part of this time of reassessment.
Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19

As your ruler, Saturn, turns retrograde this month, your obligations and personal plans come under review, dear Capricorn. You could feel a little more withdrawn or feel a lack of energy during this monthslong transit that highlights third-house themes or transportation and communication. You may see a need to revamp how you express yourself to ensure your message is received in the way that you meant it. Delays are likely — with projects, travel, socializing and learning — so it’s important to reconnect with the purpose or meaning of your goals.
Aquarius
Jan. 20–Feb. 18
With your ancient ruler, Saturn, turning retrograde in your second house this week, a change of perspective related to self-worth and finances is on the menu, dear Aquarius. There could be a heaviness leading up to the beginning of this transit, as stresses around money, possessions or self-esteem come to light. Try not to push ahead with projects or purchases, as you may change your mind in the long run. This monthslong period would be better used as a time of reviewing and reflecting on natural talents, security and resources.
Pisces
Feb. 19 – March 20

Saturn turns retrograde in your sign this week, dear Pisces, which may have you feeling temporarily disconnected from the purpose of your commitments or responsibilities. This is likely due to a shifting perspective around your identity and how well you feel you can rely on yourself. Moderation is key, and you may find it particularly rewarding to return to an old project. Friendships and happiness also come under review now.
