Mary’s Cheesecakes rotates over 100 homemade flavors ranging from Candy Crunch to Bourbon Maple Pecan. Bonus: every first-timer gets a mini cheesecake on the house.

The cheesecake shop is named after Mary Reed, who began operations out of her kitchen.

“Watching Mary’s Cheesecakes grow from my home operation by myself to a family operation and a brick and mortar has been a lot of fun,” Reed told St. George News.

But her love for cooking and baking started long before she began selling cheesecake.

Reed said her mother taught her the ins and outs of everyday cooking and baking, while her father taught her how to bake bread and pies. She grew up eating his mini cheesecakes but waited a long time to finally make a cheesecake of her own.

While the concept of Mary’s Cheesecakes was born in 2016, it took a few years to go into business.

In 2018, Reed said bakers were finally allowed to obtain a business license to sell home-baked goods out of their homes. She was one of the first people in the area to obtain one and began selling her cheesecakes out of her detached garage, which she turned into a commercial-grade kitchen.

By 2020, Reed’s son Trevor and daughter-in-law Hannah took over the business and signed the lease for the current space in January 2022. The soft opening took place in September 2022, with a grand opening on Oct. 8.

Hannah Reed said she and her husband love running the business together. The shop just celebrated its one-year anniversary, which featured a spin-the-wheel game with prizes that included swag, gift cards and free cheesecake.

“It was fun because everyone that came through the door got to spin it, and a 16-year-old kid ended up winning big things,” Hannah Reed said.

Flavors at Mary’s Cheesecakes include staples like white chocolate raspberry, chocolate on chocolate and original. Their original cheesecake is available with various toppings like salted caramel and fruit. Weekly flavors come out every Monday and include key lime, lemon, almond and apple butter, apple crisp, blueberry, boysenberry, butter rum, caramel macchiato, lavender, sugar cookie and more. Daily gluten-free options are also available.

Seasonal flavors include pumpkin, apple butter, turtle, vanilla bean and peppermint bark. Trevor Reed’s favorite flavors? Tiramisu, turtle, horchata and lavender.

Because they only sell fresh cheesecake, Trevor Reed said they found themselves with an abundance of leftovers, which led to some experimentation. After mixing full slices of cheesecake in a commercial-grade mixer with vanilla ice cream, their famous Slice Cream was born.

Slice Cream quickly gained popularity and the team now makes dedicated cheesecakes just for ice cream production. Outside of Mary’s Cheesecakes, Slice Cream is available at Utah Tech University, Tuacahn Amphitheater, Digby’s Market, Hurst Ace General Store, Coral Canyon Market and the Autosport Sim Lounge at German Auto and Exotics

“Our model is a better cheesecake and great customer service,” Mary Reed said. “We joke that there’s lots of competitors but no competition.”
