John Philip Wiser, age 75, passed away on Feb. 2, 2024 in St. George after a brief bout with colon cancer. John was born May 11, 1948 in Preston, Idaho to Marian and Philip Wiser.
He married Martha (Marti) Christine Macfarlane in the St. George Temple on Sept. 25, 1971. John was raised in eastern Idaho and in Las Vegas. He served a 2 year mission in Ontario, Quebec mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was educated at Ricks and Dixie Jr. colleges. He attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City and completed a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies later in life at Boise State University.
John acquired many technical skills as a journeyman electrician, an HVAC tech, an environmental air quality tech and an instrumentation and control tech. John loved riding his side by side and his adult recumbent trike with Marti throughout Southern Utah. He loved doing genealogy and he and Marti were serving an LDS service mission at the ROC near the St. George Temple at the time of his death.
John is survived by Martha Wiser, his spouse of 52 years and by their daughter, Tawnee K. Wiser, St. George, Utah, and siblings Melanie Wiser Wilson (Karl) La Verkin, Utah, Kellee Wiser Smith (Ron), Auburn, Washington, Gary Myron Wiser (Kristi) Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jerry Lyman Wiser (Helen) Ogden, Utah. John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Philip Smith Wiser and Marian Naomi Sudekum Wiser, his siblings, Janell Wiser Gardner (Wayne), Joseph Dallan Wiser (Gaye Lynne), Alison Wiser Briggs, Charles DeWayne Wiser (Janice).
Funeral services will be held in his honor on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Morningside 7th Ward, 881 S. River Road, St. George, Utah. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
