Louis “Sheldon” Clove, 89, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, at his home from kidney failure. He was born May 19, 1935, in Enterprise, to Grant Ivor and Nellie Truman Clove, the second of six children, with two brothers and three sisters.
He attended Enterprise Elementary, Enterprise High School, Dixie College, Southern Utah University, and took additional classes through the years from Utah State, Brigham Young University and Northern Arizona University to earn his master’s degree.
In his early years he worked at his father’s store and farm, and later for the railroad; but having a great love for young people, he decided to make teaching his career.
He taught sixth-grade for many years and then became the Enterprise High School counselor and media coordinator. He was always a very hard worker, taking on extra jobs to provide for his family.
Sheldon was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Patricia Gubler in the St. George Temple on July 8, 1955. They were blessed with four children, Chris, Cort, Shaun and Russ, and have 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He loved his family deeply and was happy with all of their accomplishments.
A gifted athlete, sports have always been one of his favorite pastimes; either participating or watching. He was born with a song in his heart and loved music. For many years he was asked to sing in weddings and funerals.
He lived to serve and make others happy, and his simple and pure testimony of his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ was an innate part of him. He faithfully served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: as High Councilor, Bishop, Seventy, and working and serving most of his life with young people as a teacher, scoutmaster, Young Men leader, and most recently, for approximately 20 years, as a cub scout/boy activity day leader with his loved and very close brother-in-law, Ferrell Phelps.
He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Patricia; parents, Grant and Nellie Clove; son, Shaun Gubler Clove; granddaughter, Selena Clove; 3 great-grandchildren, Jordan Putnam, Timothy and Lucy Taumoelau; brother, Ronald Clove and sister, Jeanette Staheli; (sister-in-law, Doris Daugherty; brothers-in law, Jim Staheli, Mel Reed, Doug Gubler, Karl Blake, Rex Daugherty, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
He is survived by his children, Christine (Jeffrey) Putnam, Veyo, Utah; Cortney Sheldon (Kristine Tait) Clove, Enterprise, Utah; daughter-in-law, Collette Clark Clove, St. George, Utah; Russell Brooks (Paige Hillman) Clove, St. George, Utah; 17 grandchildren: Aaron, Miko (Mary), Jenn (Tim) and Ethan (Sylvia); Tyrel (Kristin), Kari (Robert), Kellie (Matt), Dallin (Kadin), Megan (Ofa) and Melinda (Kendrek); Trent (Dara), Sami (Cody) and Becca; Kaitlyn (Sam), Chandler (Max), Abbey and Mia, and 39 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Harvene) Clove, sisters Mona (Ferrell) Phelps, and Ann Reed; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marianne Clove, Ward (Judy) Gubler, Duane “Dutch” (Bobbie) Gubler, Carol Gubler, Muriel Gubler Blake, Murray (Jane) Gubler and Jeff (Angela) Gubler.
