Park rangers received a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle reported in the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway tunnel, according to a statement released by Zion National Park. National Park Service staff and Hurricane Valley Fire District’s emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and initiated CPR on the 19-year-old rider who was found unresponsive.

Those resuscitation efforts were later terminated and after consulting with a physician the rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

“All of us at Zion National Park extend our sympathy to the deceased’s family for their tragic loss,” Acting Superintendent Bry Carter said in a news release.
The Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel closed temporarily during emergency response operations.

Utah Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
