FEATURE — Southern Utah’s live music scene is flourishing, and the Canyon Media crew is back to highlighting local musicians. So gather around for another session of “Paper Jams.”

Coming to you from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media, this month’s edition features Adobe Taylor, a singer-songwriter, guitarist and St. George native.

Watch (and hear) Adobe Taylor perform live from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media in the media player above.

Strumming his way through the red rock canyons and dusty trails of Southern Utah, Taylor brings a groovy blend of folk and alternative rock to the desert stage. And as he told St. George News in a recent article, music is everything to him.

“It’s an outlet, it’s meditation, it’s a way for me to explore my own creativity and my own trains of thought,” he said. “I’ve done things and gone places because of music that I probably wouldn’t have done in any other way. So, music is my life. It’s not even a part of my life, it is my life.”

Taylor was born in St. George and frequently traveled between Southern Utah and Las Vegas growing up. He started singing at 6 years old and picked up the guitar, along with other instruments, around age 11. By the time he was a teenager, he was performing at every open mic event he could find.

During his recent visit to Cloud 9 Studios, Taylor performed an original song, “Speak My Mind.” He also put his own spin on the lesser-known Beatles track “Rocky Raccoon.”

Inspired by legendary axemen like Albert King, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, he’s mostly self-taught as a guitarist. He took one summer of lessons from local music maestro and Electric Witness frontman Dick Earl, who started teaching him how to play the blues. Taylor got hooked right away, and he’s been addicted to writing and performing songs ever since.

Taylor frequently performs at venues throughout the greater St. George area and is working on crafting and recording an EP. Follow him on Instagram @adobe_taylor_music for dates and locations of upcoming shows.
