First responders were dispatched to the intersection of 3000 North and Minersville Highway at 11:38 a.m. Thursday. Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo told Cedar City News the incident involved a full-size Ford truck and a silver Hyundai sedan.

The Ford truck was southbound on SR-130 making a left turn onto 3000 North. The light began to change colors from yellow to red as the truck began making the turn, Bonzo said.

“The car that ended up hitting him didn’t even slow down for the yellow and came into the intersection after it turned red,” Bonzo said.

Police issued a failure to yield citation to the driver of the Hyundai, while both vehicles were towed from the scene after passengers unloaded their belongings.

None of the occupants were transported for medical treatment, though Gold Cross Ambulance provided aid to one man on the scene for minor injuries.

Bonzo added that while the incident could have been worse due to high traffic during lunch hour, the scene could have been avoided completely.

“Just pay attention to the signals and yield the proper right-of-way,” he said.

An off-duty Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped at the scene to provide assistance, Bonzo said.

Iron County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted with traffic control as well.

The scene was cleared of both vehicles, and traffic resumed to normal in approximately 45 minutes.
