HURRICANE — Cedar High School won its first-ever region title in girls golf on Tuesday as the Region 9 regular season wrapped up at Sand Hollow Resort.

Crimson Cliffs, led by Kate Walker’s 71, snapped Cedar’s four-week winning streak but the Reds still captured the overall championship. Over the course of the season, Cedar averaged 347 strokes to Crimson’s 371.6. See listings below for final scores and standings.

“What an exciting season,” said Cedar head coach Laycee Johnson. “The girls made school history with Cedar High’s first region girls golf win. We are so proud that five of our players were in the region’s top 12.”

One of the top highlights of the day was Desert Hills senior Lucy Dixon’s hole-in-one on the Sand Hollow Links course’s 108-yard, par 3 fourth hole (her 13th hole of the day, as the golfers played through the nine-hole course twice).

Dixon used a pitching wedge to land the ball onto the green, where it bounced straight into the cup, prompting an excited reaction by her father, Devin Dixon of The Fan Sports Network.

“Proud dad moment for sure,” he said of his daughter’s first-ever ace, which he also happened to capture on video:

At the clubhouse afterward, the top 12 individual medalists were honored, and Cedar was awarded the Region 9 title trophy.

“A big thank you to all the coaches and players for a great season,” said Cedar coach Johnson, who also expressed her appreciation to Pine View coach Matt Wieland for maintaining scores and statistics throughout the season.
