Robert “Not Bob” Welty passed away at age 75 on July 8, 2024, due to heart failure. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Robert was born on Feb. 10, 1949, in Freedom, Oklahoma, to Jason and Iola Welty who had four older daughters. He spent his formative years growing up in Dodge City, Kansas. He went on to attend Kansas State University where he received a BS in Biology and an MS Agronomy. Robert was a lifelong Wildcat fan and K-State was where he became known as Robert “Not-Bob” Welty. While at Kansas State University he met and fell in love with Martha Willis. They married Oct. 13, 1974, and they had their first son, Tadlee, in October 1975.
Robert and Marty Welty joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1977. This was a life-changing step for Marty and Robert, and Robert loved his growing relationship with Christ over the years, he loved his fellowship with other members, and loved sharing his love of Christ with others. In 1981 they had a daughter Lynn, and in 1986 they had a son Brian. Robert became an agricultural sales representative, which moved their family to California. During his career he used his knowledge of agriculture and personable skills to build friendships with farmers and excel in his career. Their family lived in Paso Robles for over 36 years, where they loved the beautiful coastal area, and most importantly made many lifelong friends there.
Robert is known for his zest for life and how he lived life in a large way. He loved to make people laugh and he found joy in many activities. Some activities he developed a passion for were golfing, hunting, fishing, playing guitar and writing music, cooking and barbequing, skiing, woodworking and playing games, as long as he won. Robert was always working on a project, a true “Renaissance Man” and DIY-er at heart using ingenuity to find a fix for anything. He was eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others and offer guidance and support to his family and friends.
Some of his greatest joys in his life were found through time he and Marty spent with family. Through the ups and downs of life he and Marty stayed devoted to each other and were preparing to celebrate 50 years of marriage together this year. He loved spending time with his sisters and their families. He loved being a father and supporting and teaching his three children and being a grandfather to his 14 grandchildren, to whom he is known as Papi. A year ago Robert and Marty moved to Washington, Utah. They felt loved and welcomed by the people of this community. When they moved here Robert was set apart as an ordinance worker for the Red Bluffs Temple, and he found great joy serving at the temple with Marty.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Marty, his children Tadlee, Lynn and Brian and their spouses, his 14 grandchildren, and two of his sisters Beverly and Kathy. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
