The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near mile marker 33 on I-15.
“They were driving, then they noticed the smoke and they pulled over and got out,” Tyler Ames, administrative captain for the Hurricane Valley Fire District, told St. George News.
The Cherokee then erupted in flames.
The Hurricane Valley Fire District with one engine and four firefighters, a ladder truck with five individuals and one battalion chief responded to the scene.
The two occupants of the Jeep were uninjured, Ames said, adding that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
Ames reminded the public to be aware of vehicle maintenance needs.
“Make sure your vehicle is maintained on a regular basis, that you’re taking care of any issues or problems that it has,” Ames said. “Just preventive maintenance to make sure that everything’s working appropriately.”
