Nov. 7, 1952-FEb. 12, 2024

Susan Christensen Burch, 71, passed away suddenly on Feb. 12, 2024, in St. George, Utah, leaving her family and community in shock and sorrow. She was born on Nov. 7, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jesse Lee and Beverly Joy Christensen.

Susan was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, compassion and unwavering love. Throughout her life, she exemplified strength, resilience and grace in the face of adversity.

She married the love of her life Bill on July 20, 1997. Together, they embarked on countless adventures and shared a deep love for the outdoors. They cherished their time together and created lasting memories.

They spent many joyful hours at their cabin, nestled in the serene beauty of Scofield. Whether fishing, ATV riding or enjoying the tranquility of the lake, Susan and Bill found solace and happiness in nature’s embrace. What made their time at Scofield most memorable was the sense of community they fostered, hosting banquets, helping to organize fishing derbies and delighting in parades and firework shows with their neighbors and friends.

In her professional life, Susan pursued her passion for culinary arts, working as a chef for the Marriott in Utah for many years before she and Bill settled in Beaver Dam, Arizona. She cherished her little community and became deeply involved in its well-being.

Susan began working for the Littlefield Unified School District in 2004, leading the Food Services Department for nearly 16 years. She adored being around the students, and they adored “Miss Susan” right back. Her dedication to providing nutritious meals and a positive experience contributed significantly to the well-being of the students and staff.

Even after her retirement, Susan couldn’t stay away from the schools. She continued to support and advocate for education, eventually being elected to the school board. Her commitment to the success and welfare of the students was unwavering, and her presence will be deeply missed.

In addition to her work in education, Susan was also a dedicated member of the Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department. She worked tirelessly to keep the grounds clean at all three stations, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for her colleagues and the community.

Susan was a pillar of her community, known by all and loved by everyone she encountered. She had a great sense of humor and could light up any room with her infectious laughter. Susan had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and she would talk to anyone with genuine interest and compassion.

Susan lived life to the fullest. She embraced each day with enthusiasm, always ready to seize new opportunities and share laughter with those around her. Her sudden departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Above all, Susan will be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family and community.

She leaves behind her mother Joy Christensen; brother David (Heidi) Christensen; sisters Diane Sellers, Judy (Wade) Coon, Sharon Jackson, and Jessica Christensen; children Justin (Mary Jane) Griffith and Nicole Griffith; stepchildren Alan Burch (Maria), Ann Seymour and William H. Burch; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they shared together.

She is preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Burch; father Jesse Christensen; brothers Brian Christensen and Brett Christensen; stepson James Burch; and brothers-in-law Jack Sellers and Larry Jackson.
