Parowan Police Chief Addison Adams told Cedar City News that dispatchers called for assistance to the high school at 8:11 p.m. after the girl allegedly collided with the school while driving “at a high rate of speed.”

“There was an off-duty officer already at an event at the high school and an on-duty officer on the scene within minutes providing medical assistance until an ambulance crew arrived,” Adams said. “She was eventually airlifted to St. George.”

Adams said the girl was wearing protective headgear when she collided with metal doors leading into the building.

“The officer watched the video; she was wearing a helmet,” he said. “She still had extensive injuries to her face and head.”

The teen was upgraded to critical status on Wednesday morning and removed from the intensive care unit at the St. George hospital, Adams said of the latest update he received.

“So that is good news,” he said.
