The power outages were reported at approximately 6:15 p.m. In the Minersville area, the outage was listed as an “emergency de-energization,” and the cause of the outage between Cedar City and New Harmony is currently under investigation, according to Rocky Mountain Power.

An emergency de-energization is characterized as the deliberate shutdown of electrical power in response to a critical situation or imminent threat. This action is taken to protect public safety, prevent damage to electrical infrastructure or mitigate the risk of hazards such as wildfires, electrical faults or other emergencies.

Power was restored to a large chunk of impacted customers by 7 p.m. However, around 1,558 people remain without power at the time of this report, with the majority of them being in Beaver County.

General estimates on power restoration are listed at sometime between 2-4 a.m. for the Minersville area and customers located south and west of Cedar City.

Status updates can be found on Rocky Mountain Power’s outage website.
