ST. GEORGE — A vehicle fire on I-15 northbound near the Leeds exit spread to surrounding brush along the highway Saturday morning.
Hurricane Valley Fire Department Battalion Chief Tyler Ames told St. George News that both the vehicle and brush fires were quickly extinguished and no one was hurt.
“Just before 9 a.m. we were paged out to a vehicle fire,” Ames said. “It was a minivan that had caught fire. Pretty much the whole van was in flames.”
Ames said firefighters made sure all occupants were safely out of the vehicle and then they extinguished the fire.
“The fire spread into a little bit of brush next to the highway,” Ames said. “It was nothing major and we got all that put out.”

Ames said that occupants of the minivan said they had a flat tire on the passenger front side of the vehicle.
“When they pulled over to check it out, they noticed fire coming out of the same area,” Ames said. “We determined that the fire came from the engine compartment, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.”
Ames said the third lane of the highway, the No. 3 lane closest to the shoulder, was closed briefly while firefighting operations took place. It opened up again quickly, he said.
Ames said units with HVFD as well as Washington City Fire Department responded to the call.
This report is based on statements by first responders and may not include the full scope of the findings.
