In races on the federal level impacting southwest Utah, four Republicans are vying to be the GOP candidate on the November ballot to replace outgoing Sen. Mitt Romney. In Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Celeste Maloy is hoping to retain the seat she won in a special election last fall against challenger Colby Jenkins.
On the state level, incumbent Gov. Spencer Cox is facing off against Rep. Phil Lyman for the governor’s office, while in Utah Senate District 29, incumbent Sen. Don Ipson competes against opponent Chad Bennion, who formerly served in the Utah House.
Other state-level offices heading to the Republican primaries include the Utah Attorney General race between Derek Brown, Frank Mylar and Rachel Terry; the State Auditor race between Tina Cannon and Ricky Hatch; and four state school board races, including District 15 (which covers the bulk of Southern Utah) between incumbent Kristen Norton and Joann Brinton.
Closer to home is the Iron County Commission Seat C primary between Ken Robinson and former Cedar City Mayor Maile Wilson-Edwards.
