Zella Violate Martin, 87, passed away Jan. 31, 2024. She was born August 15, 1936, in Henrieville to Herschel Quilter and Mada Willis Partner. She married Glen E. Martin in 1957 in the St. George Temple and later divorced.
Violate grew up in Henrieville and attended school in Tropic, graduating from Bryce Valley High School. After graduation, Violate moved to St. George, where she met Glen while working at the U & I Sugar Beet factory.
She had a lifelong passion for quilting and crochet, making beautiful items for all to see. She lovingly crafted countless quilts, doilies, hot pads, afghans and baby blankets for her children and grandchildren. A huge basketball fan, she spent a lot of time watching her favorite team — the Utah Jazz — and cheered them to many victories.
Violate also had a strong connection to the past, and those who came before her, as she worked on her family’s genealogy. She lovingly collected family histories, photos, and tirelessly shared her collection on Family Search.
Above all, what Violate valued most deeply was her family. She cherished every moment she spent with them. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she believed in the promise of eternal life and reuniting with her family.
She is survived by her children, Alan (Camarie) Martin of Washington, Utah, Bruce (Linda) Martin of St. George, Utah, Trina (Bryon) Condie of Santa Clara, Utah, and Anna (David) Oakden, of St. George, Utah, grandchildren, Graydon, Joshua, Herschel, Shaelyne, Randi, Ryan, Lindsey, Marc, and Christian, her sisters, Cora (Elmond) Millett of St. George, Utah, and Beth (Dale) Jensen of Genola, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herschel & Mada Partner, and infant son, Dennis Herschel Martin.
