The Utah Highway Patrol and Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle in flames near the northbound on-ramp for Exit 30, according to a Facebook post issued by the fire department.

While the Chevrolet Cruze was “fully engulfed,” all its occupants had escaped the car, and firefighters “were able to quickly extinguish the fire,” the post states.

No injuries were reported, Hurricane Valley Fire Captain Tyler Ames told St. George News.

Engine 43, Ladder 46 and Battalion 41 were on-site with UHP troopers, the post reads.

While the cause of the incident is still under investigation, many similar fires are caused by overheated brakes, or overworn electrical components breaking down, Ames said.

“Our advice would be to make sure (drivers) are maintaining their vehicles appropriately and to have their car taken to a certified mechanic if they notice any problems or issues,” he said. “The biggest thing for tonight would be to make sure they are paying attention to their vehicles and don’t drive them if they know there are issues or problems.”

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
