Emergency responders were dispatched to the approximate scene of 575 North on Dixie Drive at 5:20 p.m.

St. George Police Sgt. Tyrell Bangerter said the male driver was trapped inside the black sedan and had to be extricated. He and two children were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

“It’s always hard when little ones are involved,” Bangerter told St. George News at the scene.

St. George Police Department issued a news release on Facebook sharing the patients’ conditions.

“There were two young children in the backseat who are currently in critical condition,” the department posted. “The male driver was transported to the hospital with significant injuries. The Accident Reconstruction Team is on scene, and the road will be shut down until that investigation is complete.”

Dixie Drive is closed north and southbound from Sunset Blvd. to 540 North as investigators work to clear the scene. Bangerter said Dixie Drive could be closed for several hours.

The police are requesting witnesses to the crash who have not already spoken with investigators to call 435-627-4300.

The St. George Fire Department also responded to the call, along with Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Rescue, which transported two of the patients.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

This is a developing story.
