Nov. 17, 1930-Jan. 6, 2024

Our much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Genevieve Fillmore (Leavitt) passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 6, 2024.  She was born to the late Delba and Ruby Barnum Jones on Nov. 17, 1930, in Logandale, Nevada.

Genevieve, “Jan” or “Gen,” grew up in Nevada and Southwest Utah. Raised on a small farm in Gunlock, the small family lived a rather austere farming life during the Depression. Sadly, Gen and her brother Jud lost their father Delba at the young age of 23. Her mother Ruby remarried Perry Duane Leavitt, and the now larger family traveled to Caliente, Nevada. After living there for several years, they returned to Utah, settling in St. George.

Gen spent much of her early life working in retail and banking. What Gen worked mostly at was being a wonderful caregiver. She was a very private person and did not like to share much about her personal life, but she had no problem giving much of her time and love caring to others.

When Gen retired, she kept herself busy by working in the temple, singing in the church choir, bowling, traveling, and taking care of family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon “Shan” Irvine (Beaver Dam, Arizona), two grandsons James and Travis, granddaughter Stacey, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Fillmore, son Layne J. Hastings, brother Jerald “Jud” Jones, stepfather Perry Duane Leavitt and stepbrothers Louis Leavitt and Marion Leavitt.

She had a profound effect on everyone in her life and leaving us has left a hole that will never be filled. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 10-11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. George East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George.

The Interment will immediately follow the viewing at the St. George City Cemetery, 650 East Tabernacle St., St. George. Food will be provided at the St George East Stake Center after the interment.

Gen’s family would like to thank Dixie Home Rehab and Hospice for their amazing care and loving support. You were a great comfort to the family and to Gen during this time.
