Karen Chynoweth passed away March 1, 2024, after battling cancer.
Karen was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose memory will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Born Nov. 14, 1950, in Richfield, Utah, to Melvin Poulsen and Delma Jean Collins, Karen married Gordon Chynoweth Nov. 29, 1969, in Richfield, and they were sealed in the Manti Temple Dec. 3, 1978.
Graduating summa cum laude from Southern Utah University and obtaining a master’s degree in elementary education, Karen passionately taught her beloved students for 32 years, finding inspiration and joy in nurturing them beyond academics.
Karen was involved in Girls State from 1982 to 1986, finding it valuable for teaching young women about responsible citizenship and nurturing a strong love for our country.
Family and friends were the center of Karen’s life, and she cherished her community in Ivins, Utah. Her unwavering faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ sustained her throughout her life.
She is survived by her sons Carson (Jamie) Chynoweth and Matthew (Nicole) Chynoweth of Spanish Fork, Utah; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brothers Danny Poulson (Debi) of Richfield, Utah, and Michael Poulson (Barbra) of Orem, Utah. Karen was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Chynoweth, her father Melvin Poulsen and her mother Delma Jean Collins.
At the end of this journey, we carry your love in our hearts, forever grateful for the warmth and light you brought into our lives. Rest peacefully, Mom, knowing your love will guide us always.
Services to celebrate Karen’s life will be held on Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
Grave dedication and interment will take place in Richfield, Utah, at a later date in a private ceremony.
