Kerry Franklin Hafen, 47, of Washington, Utah, passed away on Nov. 27, 2023, as a result of a car accident. He was born on June 20, 1976, in St. George, Utah, to Terry and Penny Hafen.
Kerry worked as a heavy machinery mechanic for Allstar Excavation, but his true passion was cars/trucks and always has been. Whether it was rebuilding them from the ground up, or giving them a phenomenal paint job, Kerry loved everything with a motor and had a need for speed. Kerry’s love for vehicles was in his blood; it started as a toddler. He had a special love for Chevys and Dodges – he even gave his son the middle name Dodge. He took a lot of pride in his Dodge Ram and spent many hours painting it to perfection and decking it out in chrome. You could always find Kerry working on his derby cars with his kids and close friends. He was so passionate about his derby, and a major highlight for him was having a chance to be a derby driver in the Finale for the TV show Bones with his cousin Randy Hafen.
If you didn’t find Kerry in the garage, you would find him enjoying the outdoors. Kerry had a love for camping, BBQ, fishing, kayaking, riding OHVs, mudding, hunting, driving RC cars, bowing and spending time with his friends, woman and family. Kerry had a special fondness for the ladies, and you never found him without his current love. Kerry didn’t share this often, but he was a very talented artist, he loved drawing cartoon characters and vehicles.
Kerry had a sweet tooth and was particularly fond of cheesecake, Tootsie Frooties, energy drinks and Red Mountain Dew. Kerry loved to be funny and goofy. He found great joy in playing practical jokes on his unsuspecting children.
He is survived by his loving parents Terry and Penny Hafen; his children Jorden (Tavish) Stewart, Treyton (Victoria) Rice, Jazmen (Trace) Hafen, Izayah (Trinity) Hafen; his grandchildren Lux Stewart, Lennox Stewart, Oaklynn Shepardson and Brexlee Shepardson and one grandbaby on the way; his sisters Tamalyn (Ben) Marsh, Lorey (Eric) Beard and Christie (Kortney) Ahlstrom.
He was preceded in death by his cousin Randy Hafen and Riley Staples, whom he viewed as a son.
Kerry F. Hafen will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers, the derby community and all those lives he touched.
Kerry’s funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Enterprise Community Center, located at 525 E. 400 S., Enterprise, Utah, followed by the interment at the Enterprise City Cemetery. A luncheon will be held after at the Enterprise Community Center.
