Jan. 30, 1952-Jan. 2, 2024

Laura Colleen (Pierce) Stumbo passed away peacefully on the evening of Jan. 2, 2024, at St. George Regional Hospital. She was surrounded by her five children, two sisters, and her loving husband.

Laura was born on Jan. 30, 1952, in Berkeley, and was raised in Walnut Creek, California. Laura was a wildflower. She loved to ride horses in fields full of mustard flowers. She loved to go barefoot and was passionate about music. She played piano and sang the harmony to every song. She also had a passion for the Spanish language and spoke it fluently.

She spent a summer in Mazatlán as an exchange student when she graduated high school at 17 — a year early as she skipped first grade. She is the beloved daughter of Frank and Claudia Pierce. She is the oldest of their five children. She had one brother Franklin “Buzz” and three younger sisters —  Carolanne (Dick) Simkins, Jennifer (John) Larson and Nancy (Lonne) Gubler.

Laura was so strong. At the young age of 50, she survived a 10-hour surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. This resulted in her being on a ventilator for an extended amount of time which left her with chronic respiratory issues. She fought so hard to recover from this with the support of her kids and her loving parents. She blessed us all with her wisdom, laughter, and beauty for over 20 more years!

She was a long-time resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, where she raised her family and eventually met the love of her life Bill. In 2005, they began dating and married in May 2009. They made a happy and fulfilling life together and bought their dream retirement home in beautiful Hurricane Utah. This fulfilled her lifelong dream of living close by her sisters and mom once again.  She really looked forward to their weekly lunch dates.

She is survived by her husband Bill Stumbo, her two sons Thomas Holt, Tyler (Stacie) Holt and her three daughters Catherine (Brent) Gifford, Heather (Eric) Ostrowski, Sarah (Derik) Francis. Laura has 16 wonderful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and was so proud of them all. She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Claudia Pierce and her brother Franklin “Buzz” Pierce.

Her family would like to thank the amazing staff at the St. George Regional Hospital ICU and the support of Spilsbury Mortuary.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, at noon, at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff St., St. George, Utah.
