It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful mom, who left this world on Jan. 12, 2024. Born on Jan. 23, 1938, in a small farming community in Huntington, Utah, she was a beacon of love, hard work, and generosity, leaving a mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Lorna was a true farm girl, instilled with a strong work ethic from a young age. She loved the outdoors, preferring the fields over the confines of a house.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother Lealen and Edith Collard, as well as her two brothers Blain and Danny Collard, and two sisters Klea Jones and Kay Wingear. Her sister Roma Larsen continues to cherish the memories they created together.
In 1957, Lorna embarked on a journey of love and companionship, marrying Archie McCarrie. Together, they shared a life filled with joy and challenges until their paths diverged, and they divorced in 1993. Later, she found love again with Melvin Smith, and they celebrated their union from 1995 until his passing in 2020.
Lorna was a gifted beautician who brought out the beauty in others. She loved working in her yard, sewing, crocheting and embroidering. These talents were not just hobbies, but expressions of her love, as she generously shared them with others.
Her greatest joy in life was the love she had for her five daughters: Carrie (Rick) Harman, Mecque (Brad) Heinz, Bona Shell (Rob) Wong, Shannon (Brad) Blanchfield and Tanya (Shaun) Buckner. Lorna poured her heart into raising these strong and compassionate women, instilling in them the values of hard work, love, and resilience.
Among her many treasures were her 17 grandchildren. She cherished each moment spent with them, leaving a legacy that will endure. In her senior community, Lorna found a new family among friends who shared in the simple pleasures of life. Enjoying lunch, cards, water aerobics, and other events. These friendships added a special chapter to her life, creating memories and cherished moments.
Let us remember Lorna for her spirit and the love she spread to all those who knew her.
Rest in peace, dear Mom, knowing that your love and strength live on in your five girls who cherish all the love, lessons and blessings you have given us.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held Sunday, Feb. 18, from noon-2 p.m. at The West Springs Club House 225 N. Valley View Dr., St. George. A light lunch will be served, followed by a Five Crowns tournament, in honor of Lorna.
Condolences may be shared on the McMillan Mortuary website.
