“It’s an exciting time to be in Cedar,” Josh Green, partner with Alchemy Development Group, said during his remarks at Friday’s afternoon’s groundbreaking ceremony for Coal Creek Townhomes.

“We’re excited to be part of that and provide some needed rental housing for all the jobs and students that are coming here,” Green added.

The project is located at 209 S. 1400 West, just across the freeway to the west from the Southern Utah University campus. Although Friday was the ceremonial groundbreaking, the project is actually already well underway, with excavation and ground preparation work having started about one month ago.

Tanner Garfield, owner of Strata Homes LLC, said he “The thing about communities is that they don’t get built on their own or just by two guys. They get built by a group of people. And so the step before the community is to build people.”

“At Strata, we focus on hiring the best people and building on those people, giving them the tools that they need to perform a great job,” Garfield said.

“We feel humbled and grateful to be the partner of choice for Alchemy,” he added. “Certainly, there’s many other general contractors that they could have selected on this project. We are grateful for your trust and your faith in us and we won’t let you down.”

Shortly after Garfield’s remarks, the attendees went outside the tent and reconvened along the edge of the excavation area, where several shovels awaited. Several key people involved with the project, along with representatives from Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, donned hard hats and ceremoniously turned over some dirt as those in the crowd set off confetti noisemakers to add a festive note to the occasion.

Nate Shaffer, also an owner of Strata Homes LLC, then thanked everyone for attending and said, “It’s been a fun journey already. And to see what they’re going to do from here … it’s going to be exciting and we’re just glad to be along for the ride with these guys.”

Speaking about Cedar City, Shaffer added, “What a great place … so much growth going on here. It’s being discovered. Seems like St. George got discovered first and now people are realizing how great Cedar City is and it’s just been taking off. So, we’re so grateful to be part of that as well.”
