The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. near Exit 62 of the southbound Interstate 15 off-ramp and involved a white Hyundai Sonata and a gold Toyota Corolla.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo said the female driver of the Hyundai had just exited I-15 and was preparing to make a left turn onto southbound SR-30 (Main Street) when a northbound Toyota struck her car.

Bonzo said witnesses reported the Hyundai driver had the green light.

“It sounds like it was pretty clear that the Corolla ran through a red light,” Bonzo said, adding that the male driver of the Toyota would likely be receiving a citation for failing to stop.

The Hyundai driver was evaluated by Gold Cross Ambulance personnel at the scene but declined to be transported to the hospital, Bonzo added.

The incident caused minor traffic delays due to the closure of the right lane while the scene was cleared, which took approximately 30 minutes. Both cars sustained moderately heavy damage and needed to be towed.

In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers and the Gold Cross Ambulance crew, Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
