Robert Daniel Abbott, 70, passed away Nov. 20, 2023, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, while serving as a Historic Site Missionary. Dan was born July 8, 1953, in Delta, Utah, to Manley and Maxine Abbott. He married Kathy Johnston, May 6,1976, in the Ogden temple.

Dan grew up in Clearfield, Utah, and graduated from Clearfield High as senior class president in 1971. After high school, he served a mission in Taiwan. When he returned home, he married Kathy and started their lives together in Clinton, Utah. He learned the art of neon tube bending, working for Marveon and YESCO sign companies. Many of his signs are still glowing in businesses throughout the region.

They moved to Santa Clara, Utah, in 1991. Soon after, he had the opportunity to work for St. George Winlectric becoming president of the business. He was an artist of wood and paint, sharing his talents with many. He loved serving the Lord in numerous callings which included bishop of the Santa Clara 3rd Ward. After retirement, he and Kathy returned to Taiwan serving as senior missionaries renewing his love for the people of Taiwan and the Chinese language. In July 2023, they served again as senior missionaries at the Priesthood Restoration Site in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. He loved testifying of the truthfulness of the restored gospel. He was blessed to pass away doing so.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; son Nathan Daniel Abbott (Crystal) of St George, Utah; daughter Michelle Dummar (Joe) of Dublin, Texas, and daughter Jamie Mecham (John) of Washington, Utah; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; siblings Tony Abbott (Thorelle), Wendy Pearce (Mike), Patti Matheson (Ivan) and Jennifer Tolbert (Bryce) Sharon Winget (Mike).

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Manley and Maxine Abbott; his in-laws Elwood and Cleone Johnston; his brother Terry Abbott; and his son-in-law Jonathan Ziegler.

The family would like to thank the senior missionaries at the Priesthood Restoration Site for their incredible love and care for our parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Santa Clara LDS Chapel located at 3040 Santa Clara Drive, in Santa Clara, Utah.  A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, from 6-8 p.m., and again on Wednesday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral, both at the chapel. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara City Cemetery.
