ST. GEORGE — As a result of a widespread power outage, traffic lights were out on Sunset Boulevard Sunday morning. Failure to yield at one of these darkened intersections resulted in a crash involving three vehicles, deployed airbags and ultimately, an injured driver.

The crash involved a Dodge van, a Volkswagon and a Toyota 4Runner. Officer Trevor Pollei with the St. George Police Department said the 4Runner and Volkswagon were both turning left when a van came north on Bluff Street.

“The van didn’t yield, then hit the 4Runner, then the 4Rrunner got pushed into the Volkswagon,” Pollei said.

One female was transported to the hospital via ambulance. No update has been given on her condition, but Pollei said she was conscious, awake and alert when he arrived on scene.

With recent rainstorms, he cautioned the public to practice safe driving.

“Slow down and watch your six,” Pollei said.

According to Utah state law, a driver that approaches an inoperative traffic signal should, “stop before entering the intersection; and yield the right-of-way” to other vehicles.

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
