Nov. 3, 1944-Dec. 8, 2023

Margaret “Peggy” Ann Soderborg, 79, passed away on Dec. 8, 2023 at her home. She was born on Nov. 3, 1944, in Denver, Colorado, to John Delmar and Margaret Louise McNeill. 

Peggy was raised in Ogden, Utah until she was 10 years old then her father was hired at the Army Depot and the family moved to Tooele, Utah, where she graduated from Tooele High School in 1963. She earned a full-tuition scholarship to Utah State University where she married William Lund Soderborg, Jr., had a son Marty and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1969. They moved to Colorado Springs where a daughter Amy and a son Jeff were born. She worked part-time for H&R Block and became a substitute teacher. 

In 1974, the family moved to Longmont, Colorado, and Peggy began teaching full-time in 1980 at Spangler Elementary after divorcing. She taught kindergarten, third and first grades. Peggy became the SVVEA president for four years and also trained districts and school board teams in collective bargaining negotiations. She returned to the classroom for two years before retiring after 22 years.

Peggy enjoyed traveling with friends Sheila Goodman, Alice Johnstone, Beth Allen, Jean Kinney and Mitte Anderson. New Zealand, Scotland, the United Kingdom and Russia were some of her most treasured trips. She loved attending high school reunions and kept in touch with many lifelong friends. Peggy was a coach and trainer for the Genealogical Society of Colorado and Utah for many years. She moved to St. George, Utah, in 2012 where she had weekly lunches with friends from the neighborhood and enjoyed serving on the HOA boards in both Longmont and St. George.

She is survived by Martin Todd (Gretchen) Soderborg of Panaca, Nevada; Amy Louise (Mark) Wier of Ivins, Utah; and Jeffrey John (Sandy) Soderborg of Johnstown, Colorado, along with 13 grandchildren: Briana, Jennifer, Lindsay, Jeffrey, Kaleigh, Anna, Taylor, McKenna, Preston, Sadie, Krista, Joshua and Kaylynn; and seven great-grandchildren Adelina, Ian, Clara, Collin, Daxton, Lorenzo and Italy.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father John and Margaret McNeill, stepfather John Silvis and grandson Payton Todd Soderborg.

The family would like to thank Drs. Joseph Te, Chad Lunt and Michael Codiga, Atlas Hospice, Arloha Sutherland and nurse Michelle Drake, neighbors Verle Hurst, Betty and Tim Parkinson along with her other friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends donate to their local hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. MT at Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah, 1316 S. 400 E. #A5, St. George, Utah. She will be interned next to her parents at Olinger Hampden Cemetery in Aurora, Colorado.
